SEMINAR TITLE: High-Energy Radiation in Galactic Compact Sources
SEMINAR LANGUAGE: English

ABSTRACT:
Galactic compact sources have been considered a potential class of
gamma-ray emitting objects for many years, but it was not until
recently that it was firmly established by satellite-borne GeV and
ground-based TeV instruments. These sources, basically all of them
pertaining to the category of gamma-ray binaries, can be very
luminous, and present strong variability and high acceleration
efficiencies, being their high-energy emission likely produced in
powerful outflows suffering internal and external shocks. Since they
are compact objects and strong radiation fields tend to be present,
pair creation cannot be neglected. In this talk, I will briefly
summarize the main properties of these objects, as well as discuss
open questions regarding the physics behind their emission.
